Steam’s 48 “Free Downloads” Are Demos—Here’s What You’re Actually Getting

At KGK, we don’t do hype for clicks. So let’s be clear about Steam’s latest Automation Fest: the platform is offering 48 free downloads—but they’re demos, not full games.

We’ve seen other communities spin this as a massive free game drop, and while the lineup is exciting, calling them “free games” is misleading. These are preview builds meant to showcase gameplay and systems, giving you a feel for what’s coming—not the complete experience.

Still, there’s plenty here worth checking out:

  • Tunnet: Already boasting a 98% positive rating, the demo mirrors the full game well. Worth your time if you’re into elegant puzzle mechanics.

  • Cubetory: Visually striking, with a loyal indie following and promising gameplay loop.

  • Glintland: Unreleased, but its fusion of magic and automation makes it a standout in concept alone.

Plus, Valve’s adding themed cosmetics to the Points Shop—limited-time avatars and profile frames that fit the automation aesthetic.

Bottom line? These demos offer a genuine chance to try before you buy. That’s something we can get behind. But they’re not full titles, and we won’t pretend otherwise.
