Super Destronaut DX

July 25, 2018

One of the most iconic games out there is the mighty Space Invaders, proving that gameplay will always be preferable to graphics. It looked basic, but was ultimately addictive for many early adopters to gaming. Now we have a clone of said game from Petite Games, names Super Destronaut DX. Can it reignite interest in one of the oldest known titles? Let’s find out.

Instead of just a small selection of colours, Super Destronaut is awash with bright colours as you take on the pixelated menace, with a fairly easy challenge ahead of you. It’s by no means difficult, and for all intents and purposes, it serves as a quick completion for achievement and trophy hunters. Several game modes are present and Challenge mode is certainly a worthy addition, as it requires certain conditions to be met before you get awarded the win.

Gameplay is simple; move and shoot. That’s all you need to know, and the only other nugget of information you really need to know is to pick up them weapon power ups to destroy the masses. Keeping it simple and easy makes it a breeze to play, even if it’s just for a short time. And if you never play it more than once, you’re going to enjoy Petite Games take on their version of Space Invaders.

Audio is good as you’d expect for a game such as this, and doesn’t became an annoyance. Visually, it’s colourful and pixelated giving a nod to the original influence. A small but fun package of a game, and one that offers easy achievements or trophies for those so inclined.

Verdict

For a game that acts as a quick completion, Super Destronaut DX is a blast to play and Challenge mode is definitely fun. You won’t need to complete all for any of the achievements or trophies on offer, but it’s worthwhile making the extra effort to complete them all. A fun little game and it’s a shame that there wasn’t more content available. But for the price of a pint and a packet of crisps, you can’t go wrong.
